From cliffs looks bigger to newbies, because they cannot delineate exactly where the flat water ends and the wave begins due to the shadow.

Above advice is good.
Just shove front wing most forward, and same for fuselage direction.
Wing does not get on foil sooner than windfoil.

This past Sunday was NW 15-24 mph winds at Bodega and Tomales.
Thanksgiving was 10-16 mph from 2-4 at Berkeley.

I do both.
Get on foil about the same.
With similar sized foils, of course.
But windsurf does need about 1.5 meter bigger sail, in the same wind.

Great you got side off winds.
This storm is extremely easterly direction, unusual for sure.
Straight East winds in SF.
