NPS wants to ban Kitesurfing to save the Plover

why do we want the plover population to increase?!?! You live on the cape - I'm sure you don't want any more beach closures so we have more plovers...so my point stands...F*** THE PLOVER! Who cares about this stupid bird - what happened to common sense?

I know, the environment...so lets ruin our lives to save a little useless bird..ever hear of survival of the fittest? If they can't make it on their own without us helping by closing beaches, then they can't make it..let them go extint - won't affect me one bit.

You're not ruining your life if you can't sail at one beach. Part of what makes Cape Cod special is its natural beaches. They're worth preserving.

If you need another beach, come to the Hudson. We've got lots of underused launch spots and great flat water. There are a few kiters here but more are always welcome. Everybody on the river likes to watch the kiteboarders.

Piping plover tastes like chicken. And as your prior president once said "Nature must learn to live in harmony with humanity."

1. Piping plovers are far more likely to be stepped on or driven over than dragged through by some hapless kiter.

In her book Endangered Piping Plovers: Identifying the Causes of the Decline of the Piping Plover and Helping the Bird Make a Comeback. , Rosemary Drisdelle points out that "piping plovers tend to nest in areas favored by people for walking and sunbathing" and that the nests are "...virtually invisible."

2. Piping plovers will happily breed anywhere a "suitable" nest can be built.

The shadows of kites, raptors, fat untanned tourists etc will not stop plovers breeding, it simply designates that area "unsuitable" and results on them finding another nesting area.

3. The reason that the plovers are becoming an issue is that they want to nest where they can see those cool kiting guys.

Get over it. The only reason you've jumped on the piping plover bandwagon is to bash kiting.
