I sailed Fogland from 11:30 till 2:30. The wind never really turned on but as Andy Brandt would say "Every day of sailing is a great day of sailing". Thanks to my Kona One I still had a great time on and off the plane with a 6.0. I'm really enjoying the Kona. In the gusts it got up to good speed on a plane and in lulls I'd put the dagger-board down and work up wind. I actually made it to the upwind shore. In lulls I tried push tacks and helicopter tacks and slam jibes.
There was one other sailor on the North side and there were a few on the South side.

The wind never turned on at Fogland??
A rare trip for me to the city of Hyannis yielded strong 4.2 conditions at Kalmus.
First on and First off the water was my adpoted father Bruce. The old man hung in there with a 5.0.
A new contact for me - Steve, one of Jerry's Kids / aka the Boston Irish Mafia. We traded tacks for an hour.
I had 3 "throw-aways", 2 goin into a left hand corner and a good one right in front of Steve - I said to myself that I'll give him a good Kodak monent off a nicely formed ramp. Didn't plan on give'n it a good face plant.
The light rain and light fog were no big deal with the decent mid 50s temp.
Another great day for my cherished 1991 glass wrapped block of concrete.
By the time I left, there was about 6 other guys on and off the water.
Just a plain old solid "A" Day!!

It seems like the Kalmus winds were greater than those in Falmouth by 5 knots or so. It was rather gusty for us, too. Those sustained high wind bursts that come out of nowhere in a lull can definitely create face plant situations. |
