Not planning for 1 hour in the river is just plane stupid.
Saturday a guy broke his boom at the hatch. As he was swimming it in through the barge lane a barge came down the river and he had to swim his rig back towards Oregon. By then people were helping him. But he lost his board and finely got a tow back to shore. His 4.7 sail was left at Kodak point at the Hatch but by the time he got there someone had walked off with it. He also lost his mast bottom to the river. His name and phone number is on the red and orange 4.7 Essy sail. It would be nice if his sail is returned. Can leave at windance if too embarrassed to call him.
Had he not been properly dressed he would have been in very bad shape. Lots of fools were at the Hatch this weekend.

The June 6 forecast just came out, in the form of the "9-panel".
It says, "Leave your gear at home".
See the last panel in

and notice the lack of isobars over WA/OR just past midnight on the morning of June 7.
The rest of you might notice that there are no isobars on ANY of the next 9 days. ;-(

| can't say i'll dress for a swim, ever. if and when a breakdown happens I am more than able to get my own butt to shore. cell phone does you no since the sheriff only does body recovery, not rescue. They'll pull out the whole national guard for a climber on Mt Hood, but if you are on the water you are on your own. |

Many of us have rescued -- as in saved the lives of -- many shivering people with that attitude; the first person to die of WSing in the Gorge, a professional athlete, died because of exactly that attitude. It is dangerous.

dude, I sail in the winter with my 7/5 IN DA GORGE, I don't need help in the spring...get off your high horse...LOL
