|

Just how well do you know the basics? Do you really know how to teach others and make it successful and easy? Spread the windsurfing love, grow the sport, create a job for yourself, and share the passion.
What is the Windsurfing Job Market? Great question! I think the Windsurfing Instructor Job Market is wide open to the enterprising individual near a yacht club or sailing organization. Why?
• Few are doing it.
• Few or no Instructors are certified.
• Yacht clubs and community sailing centers that have insurance could use
something different and cool via private adult and kids lessons and group
lessons.
• Kids and adults that can windsurf besides sail a Opti, Radial Laser, Laser,
420, or big boat are better sailors.
• Internationally, world class sailors who can windsurf have a leg up on sailors who have not windsurfed.

Most places I have seen in the northeast with a Junior sailing program have started offering windsurfing to the kids in the last few years and some Yacht clubs bought some Bic equipment and offer lessons to adults....They usually just find a US Ailing Level 1 to teach it. When I Took the course several years ago Im pretty sure it certified me to teach windsurfing bc at the time there was not a sailboard specific course.
If you give lessons you definitely want to have this cert though and keep your US Ailing membership current bc they cover you with something like 1 Million dollars in liability insurance if someone is injuried or killed.... but f*ck US ailing they've turned their back on multihull sailors and its only a matter of time before they ditch windsurfing too |

I took the US Sailing Level 1 Windsurfing Instructor course a few years ago.
I HIGHLY recommend it, even if you don't plan to teach for money. It made a huge difference for me in my teaching success rate and student happiness rate.

DW- glad to hear they are doing something about it. Nevin is a great guy. His spirit and enthusiasm for sailing are seriously contagious and I have no doubt that this will be successful if he is involved. Sorry to hate, up to this point i'd pretty much given up on us sailing but maybe now I will renew my membership instead of letting it lapse in july. Thank you |
