If you're running into issues breaking tube battens, you should definitely consider switching to solid battens (either rod battens or RBS rectangular battens). Solid battens are much more durable than tubes and the difference in performance between solid and tube battens is minimal for the average sailor.
Also keep in mind that if you break a tube batten, you can often replace just the tube or just the rod portion of the batten. You may also be able to splice together a broken tube by glueing in a section of rod to act as a "ferrule". Doing so will throw off the bend of the batten a little, but it'll keep you on the water and you probably won't notice the difference.

IMO you should go to this site to get the repair instructions:
http://www.sailworks.com/web/pages/btnreplace.cfm
If you have any questions do not be afraid to call Sailworks, they answer all questions. Or go to the Starboard Windsurfing school forum and ask Roger Jackson. |
