How many out there have windsurf friendly bosses or bosses that windsurf? |

Or - how many of you are your *own* boss? |

Sure being your own boss allows one the ultimate freedom but for most of us that isn't the case.
I once worked for a guy who surfed but that didn't cut me any slack at all. |

My insistence on leaving work at "quitting time" (i.e., after putting in my 8 hours of work) on windy days cost me an incredibly choice assignment and probably a promotion, and ultimately got me ordered to work 20 hours a day for two years. The former two impacts were worth it, the latter got blown off when I caught the boss taking an afternoon off for golf on "company time". Just as with choosing boards, places to live, medical treatments, helmet vs no helmet, and spouses, we gotta define our priorities to make valid choices. OTOH, the boss had little say what I did with my leave time, which ranged from a windy afternoon to a month.

Amen to that brother, but it is truely amazing to see how much these guys think they own you and could care less about your free time. They are only interested in what you can do to make them look good so that they (not you) can advance in their careers. |

Regardless, a lot of sailors seem to find the time to get to all these happening spots, sometimes I am amazed by that. I guess windsurfing is a lifestyle and over time peeps make adjustments. After all, windsurfing can't be scheduled except maybe on Maui or the gorge. |

The guys I work for and the guys who work for me have a line from the start on windy days off. It is like religious holidays when you are from an unfamiliar culture. Guidance counselors agree that you need to mention your special needs going in.
Oddly enough even project managers at nuclear plants think you make an interesting story to tell so they tolerate it -if that was the deal from the first day. |

Someone has been drinking the KoolAid.
If the Gorge blew even one predictable day every week, and if the various forecasts were much better than crapshoots, there would be far more sane people here. If it blew 4-5 days every week, you guys wouldn't know I exist.
Pray for wind.
For many peeps, "making adjustments" has included very successfully relocating and/or changing careers.

I work in construction. A lot of guys start at 7 and get off at 3. If I strech that a little and get off at 2 or 2:30, it can make for a beautiful day. |
