Dug this out of my tape drawer. July 1986. Tom's jumps don't look like much by today's standard but bear in mind fully battened sails were only a couple years old then. This video must have been repeated a 100 times that night at Pietros. Kudos to videographer James Langlett

Somebody was sailing the wind weapon at the Hatch last week. So it is still alive. |

That would be Wyatt Miller. This was filmed as a part of the upcoming Windsurfing Movie II, which will feature some Gorge sailing (and much more). Hopefully some of Dale's giant jumps from that day are also on film. Can't wait... |

No doubt Dale would be consisdered the second gen great Gorge jumper, but his sponsor, Bruce, did some pretty high jumping with the HiPerTech crowd back in the day, with Mike and a few others on the white flat slalom boards.
Keep in mind thos, when you start jumping high, hard, long, and far, you start breaking things, from fins thru masts, booms thru bases, boards thru body parts, so you better be young and sponsored...
Tis easy to jump high enough...witness Riedel and Chang at Wads. Harder to clean the landings. |

Hi Guys and girls,
I Alex from NJ took this video.I have spent a good half an hour in Sailworks office preparing this clip for Dale, he must have forgotten my name, or never knew it.
Anyway, I am glad that I could amuse you guys.
I have more footage of the same day.
One, he was delivering the replacement mast to someboy in the river, who broke its own.

Just wanted to point out that Dale was on his Hucker 4.2 in 50 knots.
I've never seen him on a 3.7. Jumping a powerful 4.2 in 50 knots? Sorry Lebowski, but Dale is "The Dude!"
I caught several days on the water with Dale this summer including a nuker at the wall. Him 4.2, everyone else, 3.2-3.7.
"Nic-nac, paddy wack, he still got the biggest sac!" Snoop 94 |
