| Why is hiking out, done on the ice boats. I got a machinest at work starting to build his own ice boat and we were discusing it. Its not the fastest point of sail, so is it just fun to do? |

Its actually very fast but only briefly, then you peel off downwind and the runner returns to the ice.
But for the most part, its just plain FUN TO DO...and looks cool for the cameras. You are litterally "on the edge" because it could go either way at that point 
I mean, wave jumping on a windsurfer is not the fastest form either...right?  |
