I’m applying for a County of Maui B&B license and I need letters of support to get planning commission approval.
Until April 16, the County of Maui is gathering public feedback on my application for "Sugar Ranch Maui". It is important that the County know that accommodations close to or with sailing access are specifically important to whether you vacation in Maui compared to other sailing spots around the world. Without options like B&Bs, you are mostly limited to hotel districts on the south shore. The count of letters “for” versus “against” will be presented to the elected planning commission.
If you send me your address, I’ll mail you a stamped and addressed envelope that you can use. Otherwise, here are the official instructions: "Testimony relative to this request may be submitted in writing to the Department of Planning, 250 South High Street, Wailuku, Maui, Hawaii 96793." In the letter, please refer to Sugar Ranch Maui and application number BBWK T20100002. Letters must be postmarked by April 16.
One thing you may want to mention is that North Shore locations minimize driving (carbon footprint, increasing traffic) during your vacations.
Any other ideas on how to win support of the planning commission?
For reference:
* pictures from application showing rooms in the B&B and landscaping.
* map of the area.
Aloha,
Justin

Count me in! You have a great place. I've known Justin since the early days of Ken's Windtalk and I'm visiting now.
If Bay Area sailors can get on an Alaskan Airline flight from San Jose to Maui Monday AM you can get here in time to sail what should be some really big wind.

"It’s Saturday as I begin writing the last section of this morning’s narrative. Trade winds remain active across the islands this morning. Looking at the strongest gusts around the state at around 6am, as usual the strongest gust was occurring at Maalaea Bay, Maui…with a 27 mph report. The rest of the state had much lighter winds. We should find light to moderately strong trade winds blowing in most areas. The big news will be the considerably stronger trade winds arriving between Monday and Wednesday coming up. I would anticipate that wind speeds will be active in the 15-30 mph range in general, although with gusts in those windiest areas topping 40 mph…and perhaps edging up towards 50 mph. These are the kinds of winds that require some battening down of the hatches, in terms of securing lawn furniture and things like that. Dust will be flying around, the coconut palm trees will be leaning over, and the surface of the ocean will be filled with extensive white caps."
Our trade winds continue blowing Sunday…which will gradually become stronger and gusty now through mid-week. Already our trade winds are beginning to increase in strength…a little earlier than previously throught. As these trades pick up, we may very well see wind advisories going up here and there over the islands…and even gale warnings in the major channels around Maui and the Big Island for a few days. This will of course be in addition to small craft wind advisories across all Hawaiian coastal waters…which have already gone up in the marine zones south of Oahu down to the Big Island Sunday morning. The models go on to show a cold front passing by to our north later in the week, which should work to mellow-out the strong winds a little after mid-week. The newest computer model output now shows that the strong and gusty trade winds may return again next weekend into the following new week.
I may take pictures if its hitting 50!
BTW, I got a mid size car with fold down seats to the trunk and a board, boom, 2 masts and 5 sails fit easily.

I'm Writing a letter now.
Justin has a great place and more spaces close to the water in maui is just what windsurfers need.
It sucks so much to drive over from the south side every day, and I know tons of wind tourists that simply would not go to maui if they could not stay by the water.
It is so stupid that the mayor and county is cutting off some of the most island friendly tourists out there.
I urge everyone to help out with cause.
