And mine? Neither was offensive.
I heard that someone censored some of WMP's relevant, inoffensive stuff last week, too.
Any forum that deletes normal, relevant conversation, yet allows endless unfounded libel, is twisted, and is shooting itself in the foot.

To which I responded that the tourist went into PIO (Google pilot-induced oscillation) while I was still several such turns away ... He sure as hell didn't live in Hood River.
How on earth does that warrant censorship?

your recollection on your post leaves a lot to be desired.
Option 1. You asked admin to eliminate your post, my respond , eliminated as well.
Option 2. Admin took it upon their editoral right to eliminate both.

If you're van camping by yourself, and you want amenities, Tucker
Park (toward Odell) is nice and quiet with a mosquito problem in early
Spring. Mary Hill also nice, but expensive and a long way out
toward the desert (this is not always a bad thing). If the trains
don't bother you then Viento Park works and is close to sailing
as is Memaloose. You can still free camp at Avery, I think.
Actually, there are a truck loads of so called free camp sites on the
Washington side, sometimes you get kicked out and sometimes you don't.

Thanks for the info. I reserved a camp sight at Maryhill. I do tend to stay on the east side of the gorge, wind permitting, and it is a nice park from what I remember. Plus can just rig and go right there. |

Free camping at the "Wall" just down the road, no amenities provided at no extra charge. |

Or just pretend you are a fisherman and they will leave you alone. Am always amazed how they turn the intersection of Alt 141 and 14 into a campground during fishing season. If they had windsurf equip on their car they would be kicked out.
Not against fisherman as I am one but have never understood the double standard. Rare rant over. Elliot |

sites I'd advise against that have free camping are Celilo and Rufus. |

Mary Hill is particularly sweet if the wind is blowing out there. Check
out the Oregon side of the river for some vertically pitched swell and
great Airtime. Don't get too close to the Bridge, as the wind
gets really confused, and in the early season, the current can be pretty
stiff. Peach Beach is just East of there and cheaper with less amenities. But, don't just stay there and wait for wind, check
the forecast, because even in the Spring, the wind doesn't always
get out that far. It's about 50 minutes from there to the Hackery,
with Avery, then Doug's, then Bingen, between on that side of the river.
Somebody else also mentioned, plenty of free camping along
The Wall, if you can get it. I love it out there when it blows, cleanest
swell in the Gorge (except maybe 3Mile).

Rant warranted. It galls me to drive past several great desert sites, knowing that if I sail there I'm likely to get a federal ticket with permanent repercussions, yet fishermen use them freely and frequently. My vehicle is incognito, but a sail on the river or being rigged on shore surely isn't.
OTOH, I've gotten away with overnight "murder" with my bland, ubiquitous white Ford Econoline. It blended with any urban environment overnight.

While I've never gone to Celilo, I have stayed overnight at Rufus after having a good late session there. This was some years ago, probably around 7 or 8, but I experienced with no problems to speak of, except that the wind can be a bit stiff and it's somewhat gritty. I left the next morning.
What's the problem issue today with these spots? |
