As a regular berkeley/izzy sailor, 22 on the berkeley meter means the same sailing as 17 on the Pt. Isabell meter...usually. It seems that the wind at the berkeley meter is increased as it hits the exterior vertical wall of his lordships and has to squeeze over the roof corner of the roof, where the meter is....and the seaguls trying to eat the meter don't help. I watched a seagul repeatedly bite the meter, stopping the anemometer in a solid breeze. |

OK, look at Wed.'s Berkeley sensor readings.
I sat around reading from noon till 2:30, as the winds were around 18 according to my judgement.
At 2:30, rigged 5.3 and 73 liter Tiga, that's SEVENTY THREE liters, and went out promptly. Planed halfway to windline, powered to Kitebeach, did a bad jibe, and planed halfway back across to slog for the next hour, slogging up to Lordships, out to Emery, back to Lordships, out to EmeryCove entrance, back to third dock, where I launched.
My gear suggests the winds were peaking right around 22 when I left the dock sometime before 3, but after 2:40.
Just about what the sensor says.
Obviously, to me at least, the winds took a dive right around 3, which seems to show up a little later on this website's wind yesterday readings. |
