Looks like the company I work for is packing me up and sending me off to Guam for a couple of years. Now going to a tropical isle for a two year stint might be something to look forward to, but of all the tropical isles they could have picked, they selected one with very little wind. At least little wind for half the year and no wind for the rest. Other than a passing typhoon.

So my question is: Who has any experience with Guam and how was it? Any chance I will be able to get a windsurf fix once in awhile or am I going to be driven to the dark side? Does diving get repetitive after awhile?

A few additional questions to throw in for good measure. Has anyone ever encountered one of those invasive brown snakes? How do we know all of the WWII Japanese have surrendered?

Any knowledgeable answers would be most welcome....

There's some hope of catching some windy days during your time in Guam. You'll want to do a bit of research, and one thing to check out will be iWindsurf's alternative website, WindAlert, which has decent current wind conditions and forecast info for Guam.

Here's a Guam profile:
http://windalert.com/en-us/Favorites/ViewFavorites.aspx?pid=120371

The Andersen AFB page (for example) contains forecasts as well as monthly wind statistics (screen shot attached).

And the Talofofo page is here:

Thanks geohaye,

I have been checking out Guam wind sporadically on iwindsurf and it is usually showing the 8 to 10 mph range. I know it occasionally gets windier and have seen some nice videos by a guy windsurfing over there in better than 20 knot wind, but that does not appear to be the norm.

I am going to miss my great northern California Santa Cruz sailing, which to me, is the best. I love it here.
