it's like skateboarders vs. in-line skaters.
windsurfers despise kiters for some reason, probably because kiters get all the babes. kiters don't care what you ride, they would just like a little help launching and landing once in a while.
surfers are anther animal alltogether. they don't care what you ride, just ride it somewhere else. |

Cool username. Hi Charlie, I'm guessing you were age 12 when you signed up? |

I didn't know what to say...I had been a committed wsurfer for decades. Well, I got on line and checked out some videos. It was a total turnon!
So, my buddy and I headed to SPI to try it out. My wife went along...just to watch. At the beach my instructor handed me a pump and sent me off to inflate the kite. I stripped down to my trusty speedo (All windsurfers wear those - right?) and started pumping the kite. The instructor rushed over and screamed at me to get some boardshorts on for godsake you friggin kook!
Well, a couple lessons and a week on the water and I was kboarding like a real dude. My wife even gets into it!
I still consider myself mostly a wsurfer, but find, sometimes, I just have to head over to the kitebar end of the beach. Just don't judge me! | Thank you all for taking the time to share your experiences and provide some much appreciated knowledge and information. I now believe I understand a lot more about the lifestyle and a little more about why kiters wear their trunks over their wetsuit. Like I wrote in my original post I do not judge, I accept your life choice.
But unfortunately in the sober light of Monday morning I have to say goodbye to this topic. On Friday when I start drinking again (I have a bottle of Johnny Walker that is feeling neglected) maybe we can revisit this subject. But I'm thinking maybe a new topic "SUP's I don't get it once your on the wave it's still a 11' board?" until Friday have a good week |

It's not a secret. The answer, straight from leading wakeboard pros asked that specific question, is that they are not mature enough to accept the fact that (some) guys in neoprene suits have an anatomical bulge. A logical extension of that explanation is that the ones who wear the board shorts over their neoprene are hiding their LACK of bulge.
I've seen only three WSers wear shorts on top:
One wants to look cool ... or has no bulge.
Another wore XXL tighty whiteys with the harness hook protruding from the fly.
I don't know why the third one does, and no one's brave enough to ask.

To some, apparently so, as indicated by how often it comes up here. |

That would be me and I get the best of both worlds. It's kinda like never being lonely on a Friday night. Funniest thread I've read in awhile. |

Hmmm, I've never been that curious, but, how come I never see
any Kiter Girls, (or Women), wear boardshorts, (or a bikini) over
their wetsuit.
Oh, and after this discussion, I'm starting a men's wetsuit company
It'll feature a 14 inch long roll of additional insulation down the inside
right (or left) leg to keep your femoral vein blood warm, avoiding
arrhythmias associated with flooding the heart with cold blood.
Comfortable enough to wear even in a Kite bar.
