This coming Sunday (5/27) is the 75th Birthday Party for the Golden Gate Bridge. Though sailing out of Crissy will technically be feasible, I am going to guess that the shear number of people and cars will probably deter most sailors from making the attempt.

They are actually not allowing any cars into the Presidio that day. Unless you take a taxi with your gear or you have a permit, you can't drive in. We can't even drive down Lincoln (the coast road) as all Presidio gates will be closed to cars. Bike, walk, take a taxi, or shuttle...that's it!

Here's a thought. Don't sail Crissy that day. Laughing

If you're a hard core Crissy sailor, you can always park there at 7AM, bike home to bed and breakfast, and have your car already there. We do that in Berkeley during all their festivities, and although it confounds the parking control guys, it seems to work.
Is that DY posting

just a thought from a regular but not die-hard (?): a good time to explore a bit? The Stick is fun, it can get VERY windy, has a "cute" swell in 4.2 conditions, and a great friendly community. Coyote, in my humble opinion, has often better conditions than Crissy with some chop going out but great regular swell on the outside ... Larkspur can be sweet too ... just to mention the 3 closest locations. In a nutshell: enjoy the day-off-crissy! Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked

Absolutely, there are many terrific sites to sail besides Crissy, and we are so very lucky here! But here's the irony: this a celebration of the Golden Gate Bridge, and windsurfers and kiters love our bridge. The celebration is supposed to be in honor of everyone who uses and enjoys and benefits from the bridge, but almost no one will be sailng around it that day because we can't get to the water? That is what I think is a little bit of a shame. But it's going to be a fun day of activities nonetheless, and I'm also planning to sail there.

<tongue firmly in cheek>

oh, i guess it must suck to have one of the most beautiful spots in the world be one's home launch…

…all these other people who don't windsurf that crowd it up; all kinds of events that get in the way; add to that dogs, kites, birds…

why can't they just leave it all to us 30 or so windsurfers like in the old days?

<tongue away from cheek>
