Why do you have to replace the insert, did the whole thing pull out from the deck? |

The screw inserts rusted and stripped. Starboard. I had gone to Boardlady site already. She doesn't say how to get out existing inserts, or did I miss it? |

If the insert is just stripped, try the next size larger stainless steel screw. Do not go any longer than 1" or you will likely go through the insert into the foam. I've stripped inserts before by over tightening the screw. |

If you go with larger screws, you need to get a thread that is designed to screw into plastic. Standard SS sheet metal screws have too tight a thread pattern to fasten effectively, and they will promote failure of the insert itself.
If it's the insert that is stripped, you can regenerate the thread pattern. I would recommend going to the Starboard Forum and request that Roger Jackson fill you in on the details of the process. |

Plastic inserts don't rust.
Use the next bigger screw, rough thread, you can tap it if you are anal. Since it's already "stripped", you don't need to tap it. Don't use machine screws, and as said, less than 1" depth. |
