If you're staying at Kahala, there is a shop in Oahu that will rent gear. You just have to tell them a day or 2 before hand, and they'll bring gear over from Kailua. At least you don't have to drive back and forth yourself.

I've also just brought a harness, and been friendly to the locals at Kahala Beach Park. I've usually found someone with extra gear that they'll share or rent cheap. That way you also have someone to sail with, and they show up when it's windy.

Holy Moly! Waialae Beach Park is so close and yet I've never sailed there. What's it like there?

I'm old and lost a lot of memory.
I used to keep my stuff stored 4 houses to the DH side of the river there, so 4 houses + a river away from that big hotel.
Been going over there for 12 trips, mostly 3 weekers.
Haven't been there since the mid '90's, so it's all gone.
That break requires a couple of tacks in the river channel to get to, then it's DH style surfsailing and surfing. Usually smaller than DH, more lined up, and weaker moving swell. You end up taking off right in front of the big hotel with the porpoises in their pool.
There's also in inside the reef channel for sailing similar to Bonaire right in front of the trail that is about 4 houses on the DH side of the river. Maybe it's 6 houses. The channel goes from shore to the reef, just enough to work on harness and jibing, and all freestyle moves.
JackLord used to walk there twice a day.
