An ENT surgeon superglued my scalp back together after removing a couple of cubic inches of mastoid bone to remove an inner ear, then said WSing was OK as soon as I felt like it as long as a helmet protects the wound from impact. If it's good enough for that, it's good enough for my feet. The problem is the risk of sealing foreign bodies into the wound, a bigger risk on da feet in da wild than on a scalp in an OR.

Kendall "Wet Pruf" waterproof tape will become one with your skin within a day. It is hands-down, class-all-by-itself, virtually infinitely superior to ANY other so-called "waterproof" tape I've ever tried. I've had other brands literally fall off with their first immersion, and Nexcare isn't far behind. Kendall, OTOH, sticks even tighter as the day goes on, and once left on overnight it is stuck so tightly that it's scary to remove it for fear of skinning yourself. (That hasn't happened yet, but you'd better not let that stuff stick to that toenail if you want to keep it.)

And I'm not just talking about parts that seldom get wet or abraded, like a cheek or forearm. I've put in on MANY torn-up feet ... soles, toes, arches, etc ... then sailed for days barefooted in and out of the straps and all over the beach all day without ever having Kendall come loose.

Any other kind of adhesive tape may as well be a strip of Kleenex or notebook paper by comparison.

Sounds like that would be perfect for hand blisters. I'll look into it.

all good points, the superglue

route

I would think the wound should be clean, then a certain amount of time for the glue to set. Last ER room trip I had, was keep it dry for a day or so, then NO soaking.

before I used this on my toes I would ask someone with knowledge.

not meaning the advise given is bad, but it could be

After you get your "tape" or "Super Glue thing going you will want a clean
condition to prevail inside your booties!
So I have a trick for you.
Get yourself some "Tincture of Green Soap".
It is a Golden Fluid that was once used as a surgical scrub
It is very good at cleanseing skin.
Be sure to have any tape secured because it will
not stick to your skin after it gets soaped.
simply pour a spoonfull into your booties.
your sailing session will be your treatment session
your skin will come out soft and sanitary.
even the neoprene of your booties will like it
Yes I have used this for nail problems as well as that
"stepped on pop top" problem.
try this and then "cruse on home"

I am not a Dr., but super glue is used in medicine when you want the bond permanent. A toenail needs to have the new one grow out and you do not want something permanently in the way (like an old nail). If you glue your old nail down to the top of your toe, it would work for now, but be in the way of your healing by growing a new nail. A new big toe nail takes from 6 months to a year to grow out fully.

Unless you have a way of removing the old nail and glue after your windsurfing trip and prior to your new nail growing out, be careful of what you glue.

have lost several toe nails..

one -- Trim those nails short.. this will prevent you from having these issues..

two -- the nail is going to fall off.. so either remove it now.. or wait until it falls off.. pliers / leatherman work well..

three -- you don't need toe nails.

my advice is wait until the thing is ready to come off... you will be catching it on everything and it will be painful.. then just yank to remove..

I injured one years ago. It turned black and got loose, so I went to the doctor to have it removed. He dabbed or injected some painkiller, reached for the nail with a clamp, touched it ... and it fell to the floor. I never missed it, and it grew back normally.

I've started with the O'Neill Superfreak reef booties, the split toe ones. They basically made half of both my big toenails start falling off. They put lots of pressure on the toenails when in the straps. So I switched to the Superfreak round toe and it got a little better but still sometimes put lots of pressure on the toes in the straps as they ride up.

I just switched to the Atan Madi split toe. Just had an awesome first session in them last week. They're MUCH SOFTER and feel easier on the nails. One of my toes is crooked and had ALWAYS caused issues in the Superfreaks but the Atans seem to conform to that toe. They're not as grippy as the Superfreaks and kept sliding around the board. The durability of the Atans is yet to be determined, I don't think they're as strong as the Superfreaks and one has already developed a small hole on the bottom that looks like there was an air bubble in the latex that popped. Confused
