If you gotta ask about NorthTower launching, you should not, period.
If you haven't already done it, don't.
However, if you wish to be on the news late at night being the victim of a dark rescue, wind having died and tides not cooperating, then go for it. There is no more serious launch site than N Tower, anywhere. |

I'm referring to the America's cup race situation Mr Know it All. I am well aware of the NTower risks, and I still launch it 20-25 times a season, thanks. |

I dont know...it doesnt seem like that big a deal. Ive only lived here 3 years and started launching there with no special tricks or instruction. Big caveat: when you come through the rainbow tunnel, if it looks light on the north side, then keep driving. Simple.
My point was that while one could still launch there, it looks to me like the first couple reaches would PROBABLY put you in the race course zone before you got out to the bridge....and given the admittedly challenging nature of the wind and tide, you might very well need that leeway to get where you're going. Have to pinch off a marginally powered reach because of a yacht race, and you might not make it. |

Don't be a fool, which you are.
THINK of what I said. I didn't say NTower was dangerous for YOU, I said it was dangerous for someone like OP (orginal poster) who doesn't sail at Crissy regularly, is unaware of it's possible dangers, doesn't know you launch right into outgoing ship channel, and now incoming channel during A Cup racing, the need for ebb sailing and watching SW winds don't veer or die.
Do you want responsibility for some inland windsurfer who doesn't sail Crissy regularly getting swept out, or in, when winds and tides change? Do you even know if this guy has a 4.2 and 75 liter board? You can't assume he can handle the situation.
I KNOW YOU CAN! |

Would someone please clarify how we can easily find out when the racing has ended on any given day? Has anyone suggested Twitter? I looked up the "Local Notice to Mariners" and it looked like a weekly publication.... |

The race organizers are committed to using social media to alert the world (including us lowly wind chasers) regarding racing schedule live via committee boat. The details have yet to be worked out but that is the commitment they gave. |

Congrats Bard. My daughter is working on my second grandchild. You're gonna love it. The hardest part was dealing with my sleep deprived daughter after the birth. Come sail with us over in the east bay. Isabel and Berkeley. I'll introduce you to mac and all the other communists. _________________ /w\ |
