Living at 45th Ave. and Santiago from '83 to '86, I got maybe 3 dozen OBSF days windsurfing, including my less than stellar 6th day ever.
Best was a N wind day, not NW, heading straight out and riding toeside DTL. Seen it maybe 4 times since.
Worst besides my 6th day was a S wind and rising swell in Nov. around '84. PeeWee, Bodkin, Ross and Eddie, Daryl, and TRoss were already out when I got off work at Wises at 2. By the time I ran home, grabbed my stuff, and sprinted thru the Taraval tunnel, everyone was in. I rigged anyways, as the rising swell was pushing 7'...outer bars breaking.
Punched thru a overhead wave, snapped the mast 4' from the top, me still standing there and trying to get out thru the most outside sets. Didn't work, I washed down to IRVING st., a ways N, when one of Wise's later employees came by with his pickup and gave me a ride down to Santiago and a shower. Estimated size when I finally dragged the stuff thru the shorepound, maybe 10' at Irving St.......bigger at Taraval, of course.
My 6th day. Still uphauling and never sailed anywhere but LakeMerced and Berkeley, I went out with Pepito and his bud Mike, them on surfboards, SE winds, maybe 10 mph. Marker111, 6.1 sail, planing coming in, after 4 waves, I got the sail caught UNDER the Sloat pier, while the still attached board tried to climb OVER the pier. Imagine the funny looks that caused....too maybe 10 minutes to release the mast base.. Very Happy Very Happy
Several years later, I watched as IanBoyd tried that infamous NNW wind day and 12' swells at Taraval, maybe 10' at VFW's. He did some great jumps, almost got out, and was destroyed by the outer break, swam in.

some sailors got some nice port tack sailing at pescadero on cinco de mayo.
i didn't go there as that place can be quite expensive. instead i launched at indicators in santa cruz. it's starboard tack on a south wind. you also need to have low tide (launch is tricky otherwise).

from there, you can sail between pier and its beach.
thick kelp at the lane, and messy junk at its. whatever onshore wave to be had was inside cowell's, which was nicely filled in when i was out. wind got lighter when the shot above was taken.

I was there at Indicators, is that you? I'm pretty sure we know one another.

I drove up to Pescadero when no one was out at the Lane early, and it didn't look doable to me. So, I drove back to town when all you guys were out. I had a fun session on the 5.2, but the sailing wasn't anything to write home about, except for the whale breeching between me and Marco. That was different.
