Late June through late August, it usually blows like crazy.
I've spent 2-3 weeks stretches using nothing but 4.2 and 4.7
every single day. Definitely not flat.
The water is definitely not flat either, but there's usually not
much swell. The wind-blown waves can easily get overhead
in the deep water off Kanaha or the reefs at Sprecks; and the
chop can be punishing, so find yourself a board that eats up
the chop or get used to having very sore knees and ankles.

That mirrors my summertime experiences there, too, except one summer that was unusually windy all summer. Even @ mostly 3.0 to 4.0, the windswell still left a lot to be desired. It got head high out near the shipping lanes way off the windward shore, but it was still shapeless and choppy, and when the wind backs off you're in deep -- literally -- doo doo miles offshore, probably alone because few people venture out that far. "Not flat" and "good windswell" are almost independent criteria. Sounds like loosescrew has found some more accessible swell, hopefully not packed with like-minded swellhundts.

What about Wailuku? I never sailed or kited there but it's side-on and with the crazy-strong summer winds, it could be fun - with onshore wind driven waves.. |

You mean Waiehu or Sandpiles which is a great spot but a little tricky - a little like Kuau. It is very shallow there (our prime surf spot) and it all depends on the tide and wind direction. Pascual from Goya sails there often its getting to be more of a kite spot. |
