After a great 6 years on a JP freestyle wave it was time to say good by to the old girl and move on,my choice was a fanitac freewave 105. After only 2 times
On the water a friend discovered a major delamanaction in front of the fin box.
I was quick to bring it back to the shop where it was purchased less than 2 weeks ago.
I am now without a board waiting to see if the warranty gods will shine on me.
Keep you posted on how it all turns out. Gman. Quote: |
UPDATE !!
Boardsports at coyote point will be repairing the defective board and returning
It to me as a loaner untill my new 105 arrives!!! It should also be noted they are doing this with or without the distributors or Fanatics warranty approval.
Hats off to the crew at Boardsports for thinking of there customers satisfaction
First.
Please remember them when making your next purchase they are a class
Act and deserve the full support of the watersports community. Gman

Funny, I just bought a 2013 Biax glass construction Fanatic Skate and it is the most fragile board I have every ridden. My JP Freestyle Pro is exceedingly more durable (which is scary). Makes me wonder if Fanatic is having some serious quality problems. |

Ahoy Captain,
Interesting you say that. I have the exact same board, and it does seem a little more prone to scratches in the paint than previous boards I have had - wondering if this is because it has more different colours of paint than other (all white) boards, and so it seems to show up more. I did get a small ding on the tail, but still watertight. I've been jumping it a lot, and so far no soft spots (cross fingers) - what are you seeing? |

i ruined a relatively new board. i had it inside my car with the nose very close to a heater vent. cold spring day at crissy so I cranked up the heater on the ride home.
next session I felt a weird thumping. flipped the board over and the bottom forward of the mast track had delammed. there was some blistering on the rail right where the heater vent hit it. the repair was going to cost about half the price of a new board.
note to self: always take the vent screw out after a session. |

So those vent screws are to be used?
you'd think they could stick a one way valve on there to allow hot air out and keep water from going in. |

That valve would be expensive. It has to withstand constant vibration in chop so it can't be a gravity valve. Goretex is too fragile and unreliable.
Plus it is very small as valves go, so it is probably not an already manufactured item. I would think it has to be custom designed. Most WS
businesses are small operations and running lean.

Plenty of Gortex one way valves on the market.
Most work really well, for a few months. |

My Fanatic SUP board has a Gortex vent. I was scratching my head trying to find the vent screw before heading up to tahoe and posted a question on Fanatic's website and they told me that there are no vent screws on the SUP boards anymore.
Sucks about the board de-laminating. The shop should be able to open the board and determine if there was an error when the board was manufactured. Do you live around SF where there are big hills and altitude changes. I can hear air enter my board through the vent when I head to 3rd ave from where I work on top of a hill in San Mateo.
Just as important as opening the vent screw you should never tighten it too hard. Just enough to squeeze the rubber gasket shut. This should allow for air to slowly escape slowly and prevent water from coming in. _________________ _____/)_____

That's interesting to know about Goretex vents in SUPs.
As for tighting the screw too much, how do you know how much is too much? I think it's probably better not to trust the integrety of the board to how much torque is on that 25 cent O-ring. |
