Disgusting fact that it took liberal/socialist groups an average 9 months to get IRS approval, it's taking over 27 months for patriot groups.

This affected the outcome of the 2012 election
This is affecting our economy
This has had a chilling effect, closing some organizations
This is illegal

I hope you libs know that I'd be just as angry if it had happened to liberal groups. THIS IS 3RD WORLD

Mr. Bard, after all this, you still cite Brietbart.com as a source of factually-correct, neutral, unbiased information?

Really?

GOP Congressman Receives Standing Ovation After He Rips IRS Commissioner

REP. MIKE KELLY (R-PA): This has nothing to do with political parties. This has to do with highly targeted groups. This reconfirms everything the American public believes. This is a huge blow to the faith and trust that the American people have in their government. Is there any limit to the scope where you folks can go? Is there anything at all? Is there any way that we could ask you is there any question that you should have asked?

My goodness. How much money do you have in your wallet? Who do you get emails from? Whose sign do you put up in your front yard? This is a tax question? And you don't think that's intimidating? It's sure as hell intimidating. And I don't know that I got any answers from you today. And I don't know that -- what Mr. George said is great work -- but you know what? There's a heck of a lot more that has to come out in this. Any anybody that sat here today and listened to what you had to say, I am more concerned today than I was before, and the fact that you all can do just about anything you want to anybody?

You know, you can put anybody out of business that you want. Any time you want. I gotta tell you. You could talk about how you're a horribly run organization, if you're on the other side of the fence, you're not giving that excuse. And the IRS comes in, you're not allowed to be shoddy, you're not allowed to be run horribly, you're not allowed to make mistakes, you're not allowed to do one damn thing that doesn't come in compliance, and if you do, you're held responsible right then. I just think the American people have seen what's going on right now in their government. This is absolutely an overreach and this is an outrage for all Americans.

For the vid~

Last night I happened to turn on CSPAN when Rep. Kelly was on his pulpit, figuratively speaking of course. What a pompous ass blatantly offering a bit of pretentious theater for the audience. If he could have, he might have stomped around throwing up his hands in an animated way showing just how pissed off and disgusted he was. I have to say his ostentatious antics were lost on me. He is just another Republican loser that just can't get anything productive done in Congress. Although I'm not condoning the IRS's actions that have affected Tea Party organizations applying for tax free status, I felt sorry for Steven Miller for having to sit there listening to such an ego driven clown.

With all this staged outrage going on this week about the IRS, it's ironic that that the IRS informed me in writing on Thursday, that due to an error in completing my tax return, that they were adjusting my tax refund upward in my favor by better than $450. It certainly was a pleasant surprise that shows me that they are focused, fair and ultimately have my interests in mind as an American taxpayer. Then again, maybe they're just treating me special because I'm a Democrat.

For a pragmatic view of our current government "scandals", I'd recommend reading the following Ezra Klein commentary in today's Washington Post.

Bard and crew--you seem to have missed the underlying issue, and the complicity of Congress, and Republicans. I have served on the board's of many 501(c)(3) organizations, and give some thousands of dollars a year. They do charitable things like award scholarships and that's why the donations, and the income to the organization, are tax exempt. It is strictly forbidden for them to endorse a candidate in a partisan election, but they can take a position on a ballot measure that is non-partisan as long as they don't spend more than a certain portion of their funds on that.

501(c)(4) organizations can do more lobbying, as long as they are "primarily engaged in promoting social welfare". The regulations implementing that section provide:
Quote:

“The promotion of social welfare does not include direct or indirect participation or intervention in political campaigns on behalf of or in opposition to any candidate for public office."

Nobody denies any organization from hating Obama, immigrants, or liberals, or practicing whatever whacky religion they may want. Perhaps having prostitutes dressed as nuns at your political fundraisers is some kinky new kind of Italian religion. The problem is arguing that such activities, when clearly partisan, are "primarily engaged in promoting social welfare", and do not involve "intervention in political campaigns." A number of environmental groups have given up their tax exempt status in order to be able to intervene and support candidates. But the churches of the religious right have flouted these laws for about twenty years, and have dared the IRS to challenge their exempt status. Neither left nor right wing groups should receive taxpayer support to promote their political views. Period.
