I recently purchased a 7.5 np 2 cam streetracer which needs a 490 mast however i have a 420 np xperience mast and a 48 extension would the north xtender 40 be enough.

I know it will reduce performance but as an intermediate it does not bother me too much...im looking for convenience as it has to be shipped to india.

in theory it should work, I would be concerned how much length of the current mast extension would slide into the NORTH EXtendo. Having a minimum amount inserted would trouble me, looks like you need 26cm of extension using this to get 490, you don't state what the luff is ?

I use a Powerex extendo on one sail combo and it has been great.

I also have a North RDM extendo and it has been fine.

using a extendo , creates a mast that is softer on top, and too many variables overall to discuss at all, without further mast//sail info.

if you are heavy it may effect sail performance , or not depending on the sail range itself

The np website states it needs a luff of 482 and works with a 460 mast with 22 extension.
However the sail itself states a 490 mast.

While The guy i brought it frm said he used it on a 460 mast

482cm luff

your 420 with the 40cm extendo = 460

22cm of extension seems reasonable to fit into the entendo, I would want it to be flush fitting at the bottom, myself with no unnecessary lenght.

the 490 bit with a 482luff, means the mast will extend out the top, like 10cm, seems odd, but could very well be

can you purchase the North extendo somewhere ? I looked hard for mine and ordered from the UK

any extendo may lead to a sail feeling too mushy down low. prydes and others need stiff down low. would not do so for long. norths ezzy's and old gaastra's seem to do well with mush down low. you'd be far better off with the right mast, or at least a powerX extendo. i've sailed the north's when they first did that extendz thing. i did not care for them. they may have improved by now, but straight off their first offerings, they were not to my liking.

I think that your biggest problem would be that the boom re-enforcement built into the mast won't be where it needs to be, so you risk your mast breaking. On top of that, your sail will be far too soft, particularly up top. I'm guessing that the stiffness of your 420 mast is probably in the 20-21 range, whereas a 490 is more like 27. A big difference that will adversely affect proper rigging and performance. Lastly, you have to ask yourself whether a North extender will properly fit into the base of the NP mast.

all good points above. and I forgot about the mast re enforcement area, which 'could be effected'

from the OP remarks, I would not be so concerned about the sail performance, given we know, or some do, thats its far from ideal,

but in my case using one has been most satisfactory

The mast reinforcement area can an issue. If you are tall and rig the boom higher than the average guy, no problem. If you are short, you could have a problem.
