Hey guys,
I got great advise on my last board (Exocet cross 84) so I thought I would ask again.
looking for a flat water lake board without extreme width. I'm 160lbs with 30 years following the wind. Now at 62, its mostly about some speed and some more comfort. I get going vey quickly so a super wide board is not needed. Sail range will be 6.5 to 5.5 As soon as its gets powered 5.5, I can go to my new cross. Anyone ride these two boards.....Thanks Tony |

Looking for speed, sailing on a flat water spot- Futura seems to be the answer. I've ridden the big one and I loved it instantly.
Btw why don't you stay with Exocet? |

Easy uphaul with both, Futura is more lively, faster, and a little more technical to sail.
Carve is easier sheet in and plane, and smoother jibing by far. And at 10 more liters, much easier for gusty conditions, or holey conditions.
Both pretty fast top end, Futura has a slight edge, but Carves are easier riding, and that allows sailors to push the limits.
The newer boards all have similar rocker, similar deck concaves, and seem to be merging into the same board.
Cutouts of Futura might be a foo foo for a 100 liter board, but good for really lightweight riders to unwet at speed. |

mr. zirtab nailed this one for you. at 95kg i traded the futura 131 for the carve 131 and am much happier with the freeride match for my soft 8m sail.
futura is faster but demands a stable sail type, and outboard straps/on the fin(technical) sailing style. |

Based on this statement I'd go Carve. Powered up 5.5 is just when the Futura 101 will start to feel good at your weight.

Both the 2011 Carve 111 and the Exocet RS5 115 (jingebritsen's second link) were in the last Windsurfing Magazine board test in the obx if I recall correctly.
I thought the Carve was fine. It was stiff and light, and able to go fast when powered. It was narrow, though, and not real impressive for low-end power and planing. Fine for 6.5 but I think it would have been overburdened with a 7.5.
I liked the RS5 115 better. It also felt stiff, light, and controlled, but it planed earlier and felt more fast and powerful through a broader wind range. It'd be my pick for flatwater passing and blasting in mid teens to low 20s conditions. _________________ James' Blog: Windsurfing Equipment Size Calculator

Good info. keep it coming. I checked into Exocet at Progressive sports. Board price was ok but shipping was way expensive, $230.. I went with Loopee Windsurfing. Board price was the same with free shipping. Seems like the only way to go. |
