Gang,
The Gorge and the Bay Area are going through an unseasonal wet weak wind period. Normally after a period like this a burst wind returns as the North Pacific High slams back to the west coast to reclaim its summer turf.
So... where is the NPH?
First study the graphic below to get oriented then use this link to see a model animation of the North Pacific High wobbling around today and Wednesday and then...........
Then go to this link: http://blog.weatherflow.com/?p=14191

Yes, the Gorge has not been feeling right recently. Thanks for the explanation Mike. Much appreciated.

please, I hope this whole thing gets back to normal by july 8 when I arrive in the Delta for the summer.
I am getting worried. I windsurfed for a couple of years back in the 80's and saved up money to go to Baja (Baja surf club, I think the place was called) one January to break through into short board jibing. well, it was the first I ever heard of El Nino, which was everyone's explanation for why there wasn't any wind that week.
so, I quit windsurfing, went back to sailboat racing until 5 years ago. now, I want to spend the summer in the Delta to break through into comfortable high wind sailing. Hope I don't get disappointed again.
btw, thank you for the explanation, Mike. Love the science! It's the only thing that makes sense in this world.

Hi Dennis0778,
The Delta has very reliable winds anytime the marine layer is deep and the pressure gradient is strong all day. If the marine layer is sparse just head to Crissy but check out Pt. Isabel and Berkeley on the way just in case.
