The water level shown for Palo Alto on this site is taken at the Palo Alto Yacht harbor, which is not the same as Baylands. Sounds like it is probably deeper in the Palo Alto yacht harbor than it is at Baylands. |

The PA yacht harbor doesn't exist any more, it's a bird habitat now. The harbor was next to the nature center parking lot. Not sure where the tide is measured but it must be closer to the DB bridge where it's deeper.
We are talking about the same place. I forgot it's called PA Baylands Park.
And the launch is from the dock.
2 feet is really shallow and bad advice IMHO. There are guys that will walk out the muddy narrow channel but those guys have very small freestyle fins.
Since you have a slalom fin, 4 feet is much safer. At 3 feet you need to know exactly where the channel is or you're getting stuck on the mud bar.
(and wallow like a mudpuppy in mud so deep it's impossible to walk). |

I agree with Carl. You need 4’ of water to sail at Palo Alto with a long (30 cm+) fin.
Most of the Muddawgs use 18-20 cm fins to sail through a 2’ tide.
I use Calaveras point for tides as it is closer to the open water area where we actually sail. If you view where the PA Tide is taken from you’ll see it’s inland and up a channel. It takes a while for the water to travel there. In fact, it can be flooding in the sailing zone while still ebbing in the channel.
Here are the coordinates for Palo Alto Yacht Harbor tides used by iWindsurf:
Latitude +37.4500 Longitude -122.1000
Copy and paste the above coordinates into this app:

Here are coordinates for Calaveras point:
latitude +37.4667 , longitude -122.0500
And here’s a tide chart for Calaveras Point:

Hope to see you at PA! |

Like the old speed trials fins, good for off the wind, beam, but not close reaching. Upwind, forget about it.
Not much windward rail lift, so centered footstraps, and use well powered. |

Let's keep this thread on topic, people...
I feel comfortable declaring myself America's Most Blunted today. 3.5 hours under Blunt Point on a 4.7 and 84 twin. Session included an Angel beach landing and multiple wake rides. Hit a max of 6 riders out there late, but a hard core of 3 worked the buoys for the full session.
I think I may have sailed my titties off out there. If anyone finds a pair of pale middle-aged man-breasts floating around near the 6 bell, let me know. |

Rigged a 5.3 at first was just powered in the middle and far side.
Then it kept getting better for the most part. Switched to the Wave Board
when the Ebb got going. Air Temp was pretty hot. |

I've got a Viet Nam surplus Huey that I set down right on Quarry Beach. Gear rack between the skids holds my board and a pre-rigged quiver. Big PA system blasting The Roots at frightened yachties as I skim across the Bay at about 50 feet. God Bless America. |
