For me several factors converge. There is a dissipation of floating anxiety, by bringing focus to a real situation, and sometimes one involving real risk. There is the adrenaline factor on stronger days.
There is the change of site and scene. There is the sun and there is salt water. My principal site has reasonably clean water, and I feel that seawater left unshowered can contribute both to better sleep and to a good yoga session. (Note: do not try this at Alameda, hit the shower immediately.)
There is also remarkable relaxation to be had in light wind sailing on smooth water, down to just above the point where the board cannot be made to keep upwind at all. |

The wife says when I return from a session, at 57 years old, my face morphs into a ten yr old face.
Similar to Jodie Foster's face in the movie "Contact", when she sees other galaxies and her face takes on the child-like glow. Pure magic! |
