If you do get a newer board make sure it's floaty enough for you. I think I stalled my progress a lot by buying a 120L as my first shortboard. I could go fast but I was in the water on every gybe; it made learning very difficult. I learned a lot more when I went with a Starboard GO 155 (I weight 190#) and then I could actually do stuff and progress. Since you're lighter than me perhaps you could go a touch smaller.

I was just looking up the go. I'm not sure if I should or shouldnt be looking into boards without a center/dagger board, but it otherwise looks like a great board to progress on. Now if I could only find a good deal on a used one... |

I started with a Mistral Equipe longboard with a centerboard. To be perfectly honest I found the centerboard to be kind of a pain in the ass. The GO comes with a big fin 46cm I think so I've never had trouble going upwind. I don't know others may disagree; the longboard definitely goes better in light wind (non-planning).

Thurston - The Windsurfing group Appalacian Mtn Club has "lesson days" through the summer, where you can try out different gear, and maybe mount those sails to your existing board, so you'll have a real life comparison. And it's free. They're on Yahoo too.
I also sent you my phone# and another PM about a Bic 320 hull you can have for free, but I'm not sure I've got a universal for it. Otherwise it's going on the side of the road soon with a "free sign" on it. |

Thanks windswell, you're a very generous guy! PM replied to.
douglass - I agree, but now the issue I'm running into is that I can't find a U-joint that woks with my mast base.
I just saw this on craigslist, 4-5 year old Tiga:

Looks like a bit of a tank, but amybe a decent price for a full setup.
I'm headed to Nags Head, NC for vacation and plan to rent a board or two while I'm down there. Maybe I'll get a better idea of what level board I should be looking for. |

Nag's Head? Awesome idea! Maybe you'll find some used gear down there. Hope you have fun. Are you driving? |

Thanks man. I'll be flying down so I don't think checking out used gear down there will be worth the effort and cost to get stuff back. |

Get it get it get it! That's a great deal. It may look like a tank but it will plane early and go surprisingly fast. |
Ah! Hopefully it won't be gone before I get back, if I had known it was such a good deal I would've made more effort this week to look at it but I couldn't find a single thing about the setup online!
Thanks for the advice. I checked out your blog, cool videos! |
