Regarding the head of the sail, some brands are configured such that the head strap is an optional item that you can either use or not use (mine was stowed in a storage compartment that was part of the sail bag). If you are using a mast that doesn't exceed the luff length, you attach the sail's male plug that inserts into the mast onto a sown-in strap on the sail's head. If it is already installed that way when you buy or acquire the sail, it looks as if that's the only way it works. However, if you need the optional strap arrangement, you remove the male plug and attach the optional strap to the sown-in strap and extend it to the proper length so that the sail can be properly downhauled (you can also simply use a length of rope if an optional strap is not available and use an aftermarket mast cap to capture the mast).

the above is a good comment.

some sails not all, have the provision to add the extension to the head, and some come with and some don't.

a photo of your gear may be helpful

Sorry U2U2U2, I don't know how to import photos from iPhoto into iWindsurf. However, if you want, I can send you photos via E-Mail and then you can post them here. If you're interested, I'll do it.

this is a photo from swchandler :

the real head is inside the mast sleeve, and a loop /strap can be attached the it, it lengthens the overall length.

this arrangement is generally typical of those heads which have the ability to do this . some have A absolute sewn over head and without surgery can't be lengthened.

I appreciate that you guys gave me some really good helpful tips. I'm going to exchange my sail for a bigger one later today. Hopefully all will work out Smile

Smile,

Good luck.

there was a question for you: where are you? having someone meet you face-to-face will help immensely.
