Hi everyone,
I am looking for an RRD Firestorm 111 LTD or 2012 Fanatic Ray 115 LTD. prefer the Ray as I already have a 130 Ray and am used to its characteristics.

I've already checked the online stores I know about, nothing in stock. (Isthmus, Big Winds, 2-RAd has a wood Ray 115 but its heavier than my 130, windance, etc.)

thanks for the help.

WIND N C in Hatteras for the RRD

Ocean Air in Hatteras for the Fanatic

I just got the 111 firestorm ltd. Been on the water about 20 times. Its fast, gets up to speed super easy and it turns really good for this type of board. I have 30 plus years of windsurfing and I think this is the best freeride board to date. And I have had them all. Tabou Rocket is a very close second. The only reason I went with the RRD was that it comes with a better fin and straps. The Tabou was a bit less cash. If your not going to get the LTD, I would got with the Rocket 115. I have friends that have that board and they blast on it. The standard construction on the RRD is very heavy and it kills the board... Check out my review earlier on this forum..... or call me. I thought the FireStorm was a "FreeRace" board??
Rare for somebody to have experience on all the freeride boards so I have questions!

How would you rate the JP Xcite rides? I tried them at Vela and thought they were pretty hard on my knees. They did turn well though but overall I felt the Rockets were a better board. Also what do you think of the Carve vs the Rocket? I have only had experience with the older Carves.

Any board can be used for freeriding.
FreeRace is on the faster side.
A big wave board or SUP would be on the slow side.
Lots of windsurfers use dedicated slalom boards for freeriding.
It's up to the preferences of the sailor.

You can call it a free race board if you like. I use Ezzy Cheetah no cam sails on the Firestorm. I suppose if you put cam or race sails on it you could call it a freerace board. Point is it does what it does and it does it well. I just sold a JP all ride 106. It was fast and turned well but needed a lot of wind or a big sail to get it going and to reach top speed. I did rent the Excite ride in South Padre on a lite wind day. It seemed Ok on that flat water and big sail. I'm an older guy with the knees to prove it so most of my sailing now is flat water stuff. lakes and bays. It pretty much seems at those places, that a board that is quick to get going and fast up wind is the way to go. The new " Freerace/Freeride " do both well.

the reason I asked the question in the first place was that I was going to get the Firestorm 111 ltd that second wind had for sale, so I ordered it, but it turns out it was already sold and the website hadn't yet been updated. otherwise, I'd already have it. thanks anyway.
