don't have a kona one anymore, nor do i have a GPS that works. did this sorta stuff a long time ago. the stiff arm lift way off the wind worx great on any board in nearly any sea state. but, one must have the optimal fin. again, super slick water, try stepping a bit further back than spec. it's lotsa fun. cheers. _________________ www.aerotechsails.com

I didn't use a Kona One but I did use a SUP board with mast track and not foot straps today and managed to get 27.43knots. Never really got to go that deep, probably only 105-110 degrees off the wind. If the wind was better today than maybe I could get it to go deeper. Surprisingly the board was incredibly fun to use! It has been a while since I left the beach with such a big smile! Will definitely ask my friend to try it again in some stronger less gustier winds! I definitely have to try a Kona One now.

in order to reduce the planing surface, one has to lift the front arm. yet, how does one balance that with the need for mast foot pressure? when sailing off the wind, while still hooked, one can minimize the whetted surface and retain control by simply pulling up on the boom. the physics of it, i dunno. it works. give it a go. _________________ www.aerotechsails.com

Kevin, What sup did you use? I have not tried to sail mine in wind over 15, when I usually jump on a smaller board. 27+ kts is impressive! |

Hey Slinky,
I can't remember for sure but I think it was an amundson aquaglide 11. I used it with my 6.6 KA Koyote and stock? fin. Going 27kts with no foot straps was a blast. Nearly forgotten there were no straps a few times and almost went off! I probably would've used my slalom board for the day but I dinged it and was letting it dry out in the parking lot. I definitely believe I can get the board to 30kts in consistent winds.

Hey Kevin,
Just curious, what SUP were you on for the 27.43? |

Look one post up!
I can't recall correctly but I think it was an amundson aquaglide 11. The logo matches what I remember. I'll take a picture of it when I use it again this sunday.
