From what I read (I think I read it right), he was hit by the KITER not the Kite when he was coming down from a jump. Then the KITER fled the area. Does this sound familiar? |

Details are still scetchy on this accident. I keep reading he may have not known he hit him. I find that hard to believe, unless his kite crashed on him and his hands were not on the bar. Thats the only time I could see he was not aware someone was struck. Most kiters are very safety conscious and respectful but there are always a few knuckleheads that just don't seem to get it. If he was doing monster jumps in traffic and hit this guy he should face some criminal action IMO..

I had a quick read on the French forums.
2 windsurfers were sailing together. The kiter managed to avoid an impact on the first one (Olivier) but hit the second one. Olivier never heard the impact but saw his buddy rig in the water. He jibed and found his friend under the sail. He got him out of there and held him while waiting for support.
Olivier stated to the police that the kiter didn't run away. Maybe he's the one that went to shore to call for help. He showed up to the police station later. I guess we'll know more later... |

Same here. It is VERY similar to the incident out on the Columbia that was posted a month or so ago. The only difference is that on the Columbia the guy was only injured and his gear damaged.
Personally I see this all the time. Kiters boosting without even looking. Unfortunately the same can be said for windsurfers not looking before they change direction or jibe.... |

I personally always try to get out and find my own space(especially when kiting). I just do not understand why a lot of riders tend to stay bunched up even when there is plenty of room to spread out.
If you do ride in a spot where there is a lot of kiters I would recommend grabbing a hook knife. Dakine makes a small one you can easily put in your harness or life jacket etc. Getting tangled in someones lines is scary and could easily happen in crowded areas. I carry two.... |

Very sad news.
There are conflicting reports about whether the kiter fled the scene or whether he was actually one of the people that went to the beach for help. I think we would all have more faith in humanity if this guy in fact did help and did not just leave the scene. |
