Due to the government shutdown Rufus was gated off yesterday so launched a few hundred yards east at what someone called Goathead Beach. Holy crap that was an apt name. The little thorny suckers went right thru my booties. Lots of weeds at the launch, the swell and wind were much less than Rufus so never again. I should have just hiked in past the gate. Rufus was consistent 4.2 and decent swell. |

Only until the 2014 elections, we can only hope.
I couldn'ta picked a better time to bust my knee, between this and the crappy winds most of this summer. |

Winds were pretty good out at Rosy 2 weekends ago, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. You had to be there at the right time (which was early Monday), but I rode 4.2 and 4.7. Not too bad when HR is getting the drencher of the decade. Looked pretty good again today. I think I've spent more time out there this year, than the last 3 years, and I'll probably be out there again this weekend (outlaw board sailors
crash the Roosevelt gate). If so, I'll grab a couple of swells for ya.

I'd probably be among them, despite the real risk it may some day lead to a permanent, total, federally enforced ban of the white man from Roosevelt. (Did they actually spend supposedly non-existent funds to construct a gate?)
"Being there at the right time" has been the theme song that far east this year. Far too many fronts produced only very brief impulse function blasts surrounded by squat, including some epic swims and rescues. |

I don't really know anything about a gate, haven't been out for 2 weekends, just couldn't resist the imagery ;*)
No epic swims for me ..................yet.

It is sort of ironic having to 'work around' the selfish congress. A few hundred self-centered politicians, telling the rest of us to " Go *uck yourselves...I'm gonna step all over you all to make more money for myself...." I just heard they're also turning back people on the Pacific Crest Trail! Imagine....You spend years planning to hike the whole trail, Mexico to Canada and then after all spring and summer of hiking you're told..."Forget it! You can't go here. Ted Cruz and his cronies are trying to get re-elected, so you can't use this trail right now....."
I didn't see any signs at Roosevelt...But I didn't look very close and neither did any of the other people there. I did see the kiters way upwind of the normal Rufus launch as I came back west after some hours of over-powered 4.2 and good swell at Roosevelt... |

I am pretty sure that Rufus gate was put in when the road was re-done, many many months ago. No need to disparage the federal organizations and workers whose livelihoods (mortgages) depend on their employment. They also provide many services which we take for granted, services that state and local governments (and private enterprise) might not be willing or even able to provide.
No more comments from me on this matter, no matter what B.S. comes back on this. I promise. |
