Maui wave trip. Nothing big to report. Just a pleasant Kanaha Lowers evening session with a few buds before the wind took a vacation. I know my wave riding (orange Ezzy) needs work…but it's great fun to just be on some. Hoping for some more in the next week, before leaving paradise.
Props to Cindie on the video cam, and JE for stirring up Jack Johnson music ideas this Spring, with his "South Way" fly-over video.

Looks to me like you were doing just fine in those waves! Nice video! Hope the wind returns soon before leaving paradise. Enjoy! October and November are my favorite time to be there.

pretty good camera to pick that up from the beach! |
Yeah, it's an older Canon ZR 850 cam. Has a really nice zoom. It has "image stabilization" but you do have to be real steady with it zoomed in like this. Fortunately my wife has gotten very good with it from her beach chair!

Yup, its the 2011 Quad 84. Super easy to turn and keep me with the wave. Got it used from a guy right on the beach at Kanaha a couple years ago!

You have to start surfing. Nice waves on Kanaha today, bunch of SUPers on water.
I'll be there in 2 weeks, hope wind returns from vacation by that time.

Wave size out of my league today for SUP or prone. Did get out for 3 days of small wave SUP at Kanaha. Still prefer windsurfing though.
We took a walk into the Io Valley. It's usually shrouded in clouds and mist, but on a light NW wind day the sun shown in there.

You're fortunate to have had a sunny day up there! One of the wetest places on earth with nearly 400" of rain a year! There are unexplored places no man has ever set foot on in the west Maui mountains. Absolutely
stunning photos!
Ever taken a drive around the entire island? Lots of fun, but not for the faint of heart.

?? ...could round up some roosters in the parking lot and see what happens.
...or there may be a chicken fight going on with some waves later this afternoon...we'll see...

Have gone around the West side, around the Dragon's Tooth over to Lahaina. Rugged and scenic for sure. The crater is beautiful too. Have been up around Ulupalakua (Haleakala south flank)--also the biking over here is spectacular!!--from the pumpkin farm to the Winery, with obligatory stop at Grandma's Coffee, and side trip out to Oprah's estate gate. And out to Keanae (NE coast) is amazing, but haven't yet been to Hana end. This place has so much to see.
Keeping track of the Hawaiian names and getting the spelling right takes some work!
