unmanageable being the word/phrase I have issue with.

Formula board are wide, WIDE. so the wind increases and now some chop, unmanageable.......

hardly think so

U2U2U2U2 : 160 litre versus 170 litre is an insignificant difference of 5% to me
for width a 5 % difference is more significant

the reason my 125 litre question appears redundant is because it is
i am unstable
stable may mean different things to different people in different conditions

as i said before, i am unstable and unmanoeuvrable Smile

LOL, so far there has been no mention of what kind of water type/conditions you guys are talking about, that makes a big difference.

In choppy water, that's all I sail in, ocean stuff.
Wider, more stable and plaining gain, until it gets pretty windy and choppy, then the width works against the chop, it doesn't fit between the chop peaks, gotta go more narrow.
Think skiing a mogul field, you need skis that fit in between the bumps, short and tight together.

math seems correct, the OP asked about same liter, not with 5 %, go figure I actually read things.

the 125L question, is in fact the same question posed originally.

I really can't propose a answer to, because their is not enough information to make a reasonable response, chop, no chop, board from the 1990s vs a 200ish , too much supposition and not enough presented

I'm pretty sure a formula board would start becoming unmanageable in water conditions typically associated with wind over 20 knots, sure there are pros that do it but that is not a desirable set up.

guilty of picking your words and phrase apart, while you do likewise.

pretty sure, would START to become unmanageable. Pros CAN manage 23MPH , so others can't ?
Desirable ..? vs unmanageable

Depending on location, hence sea state, my desirable board in 20KTS would be 135L--117L

or 88L. Would my Formula board be desirable , nah, would it get wet if I had poor options ? yes

the thread is ambiguous

The problem with the OP question is the characteristic of "stability," which I never use to describe boards' performance characteristics except for uphauling ease or schlogging. Having sailed for 20+ years from the narrow to wide era, stability has never crossed my mind to compare boards; they're all stable when you get them going. dhmark

FW boards made in the last decade are intended to be sailed fairly easily in water conditions usually associated with 20 knots. The difficulty for advanced and higher sailors is tuning the entire kit as one. That takes time, some money and usually a training partner.

FW boards do what they do, and do it well. Upwind, downwind. That's it.

Yes, they are fine for beam reaching with a smaller fin and sail but not great at that when the wind really picks up, for the basic reasons of width, rocker and volume flow. Think F1 car on rough terrain. It can be done but not with all that much fun compared to other gear.

Formula 1 comparisons, ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh ummmmmmmmm.

I think Kimi Räikkönen
could drive a Ford Pinto on rough terrain faster than most, in any vechile.LOL.

111 Days till next F1 Race..
