re considering :
what I think now is you should follow Mikes advise:

get a sail that works on your 460cm mast, so he has indeed saved you
$500

Then buy used or closeout or last year's stuff. Windance has plenty of all that; check their website. Northwave -- my first choice -- has 30% off any new sail in stock and more on used sails until Friday.

and

A 6.0/6.2 will take you to 25 kts average wind if necessary on a smaller board than your 145, so you'll have plenty of range as your skills advance.

I checked Windance, they don't have much used. Anyway, I want an RDM for this sail so I will be buying a mast reagardless, most likely will end up being a 430 in the sizes I'm looking at. Really appreciate the advice. If you guys think the Elite 6.1 might be a good fit for my needs that is probably where I will end up as I would like a really light sail and they look fabulous.

pay attention to the luff and boom length on similar size sails.

some of the new 4 batten sails have a low aspect, longish boom compared, where some others have the sail volume in luff and will use a 30cm longer mast but shorter boom length.

+1 for the Northwaves as a "powerful" wave sail. I've been addicted
to them for ..... crap, I think its been 13 years, and my 3.2 and 3.7 are
still from my original purchase.

rangerider, If you are fairly certain of getting a smaller board, you will want something smaller than a 6.1 at some point.

I would suggest getting the 5.7 and a 400 mast, then you would have the right mast for sails down to 5.0 for when it's real windy.

I have 7.5, 6.5, 5.8, 5.0, 4.2 I was getting by with the 7.5 and 5.8 for quite a while, and convinced myself I realy needed the 6.5. Well I hardly ever use the 6.5, and feel it was a bit of a mistake as I much prefer the 5.8, as it's much easier to throw around. I find for the most part that I can jump on a smaller board with my 5.8 well before I become overpowered on my 7.5 I weigh 150 btw, and have been sailing nearly 30 years.

Ezzy fx, have a broad range, so agree with the above,if you go from a 7.5m down to six OH, and skip the 6.5 entirely.

OTOH if you started on the 6.5 you would have the same versatility.

so much depends on your prominent sailing sites winds

just a different look at sizes.

When you have too many close together it is difficult to sort out which to rig,

but thats a problem I like to have, as well the sails stay newer due less use

I've been sailing with Superfreak /RDM Ezzy combination for about six years without much issues. Like to hear you insight on this.

Not my insight. David ezzy's.

Thanks all for the feedback on Northwave. Decided to give one a try.

The HotSails forum have a thread on masts for Superfreaks.

HSM mast curve as posted :

http://www.hotsailsmaui.com/mast.php?uid=2

the numbers IMO that are significant to bend curve are the base % & the tip% of defecting, holding a weight from mid point, most here are 78--65, subtract the 2 and get 14, with is a numeral that translate into constant curve FLEX TOP.

http://www.unifiber.net/2013/mast-selector

see this for Ezzy which are indicated as Constant curve, but from my own experience a little flexy compared to others in that group.

the panel layout on the sail will effect the performance eof a inappropriate mast.

these all got into making the mast sail combo, work or not.
Overall stiffness

The ratios between the mid, ¼ and ¾ bend points.

The carbon content

The carbon orientation. More zero axis fibers = better reflex

It is possible to have a softer mast that feels stiffer because of the carbon orientation.

under the HOME tab , there are 4 different areas on topic:

http://www.peterman.dk/windsurf-mast-article-gb01.htm

If I were choosing a mast for a Freak, it would be the HotRod, Neil Pryde

talk to No Limitz which combo suits bests.

My Freaks all rig on HotRods, I have used Ezzy masts and not pleased. WITH one notable exception, this summer I mistakenly shoved a HotRod 400 in my 2012 6.0 Panther, and sailed with it, took no notice until I went to put it away, so it worked fine.

It may be that your setting preference suits the Ezzy mast which generally are stiffer, the particular Freak may be the case as well
