Long past worrying about the dork-factor, fortunately.

Visor is quite useful as noted. Unfortunately, the one on my O'Neill hoody/rashguard isn't stiff enough to always stay positioned usefully.

Gath Gedi looks excellent, but for lack of face guard and price. They do have the full plexiglass face shield but I doubt that would withstand boom impacts plus would definitely alter visual experience due to spray, etc.

All good input though.

Maybe put some reflector stickers on it for at night.

not certain that a particular color would be "most visible"

but orange, yellow or lime green would be standouts compared to red or blue

white would not be a bad choice.

It takes little time to spray a helmet, mostly masking off what you dont want painted. This is Sarahs I did for her.

If I wanted the most visible I would do alternate squares of yellow or orange and green, large squares, easy peasy, I use epoxy spray from anywhere, not auto lacquer that may harm the effectiveness of the helmets protection.

PM is you want something done

The brightest helmet for safety purposes is a lighter fluorescent orange. Not only is that the color used in USCG vests by the Coasties themselves, but also the color the pigeon spotters are trained to see.

Ignoring pigeons, fluorescent color schemes absorb invisible light like UV but reflect back in the visible spectrum. Something like tossing out an additional electron I think and why they are the least UV stable colors. But while active, they act a bit like a flash light in dusk, showing very brightly. I suppose we've all seen that phenomenon in our sails on very cloudy or dark days: the day-glow colors simply seem electrified compared to the flat colors.

But I like U2U2U2's helmet the best . . .

Just get one of these, it's the best, I'll be buying my second one this spring, I'm wearing out my current one (older model 8 yrs old).
Something about helmets, once you start wearing one, you get hit in the head a lot more, at least I do. I think it has to do with not worrying as much when you go for it, better scars on the helmet than on the scalp.
Nice snug ear pieces that you can close the vents on for a quite ride, which also helps to keep the ear plugs from becoming loose.
I put tape over the top vents for added warmth and quiet.

That is my helmet of choice as well. Mine came with foam strips to place on the inside of the helmet to seal the top vents. They are made out of the same material as the liner. Easy to install and remove depending on how you feel on any particular day. Check with your local retailer, they may have some extras lying around.

I too am of the opinion that Gath helmets are the best. However, it's the original helmet design that I prefer. The convertible model that NW30 pictured allows one to remove the ear covers if they want to, but I like the added protection that the full helmet offers. Either way, Gath is the way to go.
