Hello its Kai from Simmer, many have asked various questions about the new Simmer boards, and this thread was brought to my attention so I am going to respond specifically on the subject of the construction.
At the beginning of our first production, we had a specific construction procedure that was not specifically followed on a small number of boards.
The problem has been resolved since that time, and the boards we intended to produce are now being produced.
Unfortunately, a very small number of flawed boards did initially make it out on the market, and for that I sincerely apologize on behalf of Simmer Style to you Derek for the board you had the unfortunate experience with.
That said, it is great to hear you like the ride, and consider that element of your evaluation of our product as a strong plus.
Every brand that makes boards has a story like this.
I would stay away generalizations about the construction being a result of what country of origin the boards are from, that is not a relevant observation in my opinion.
We are confident in what has been produced moving forward and have been hearing great feedback from lots of people who have been greatly enjoying the boards performance.
Good sailing !
-Kai

We dont hear from many owners or designers very MUCH on this forum, it is most refreshing to hear from you. When we do its usually do to a influence that bad publicity creates, or mis- information .
I dont read anything that addresses the problem should anyone have a issue/delam or other production defect with the first year boards .
Any warranty issue would be addressed by the distributor or dealer, correct if wrong , the creditability lies therein with who sold the unit
I agree that a specific country can not be held accountable for inferior products,
the plant in China that Simmer are built in has a less than positive report for quality control, actually not even average .
The number of problems per board is directly proportionate to the number of boards sold, mostly . Except those that have not sufficient Research and Development
or ill workmanship during construction , or inspection after.
as consumers we have a choice _________________ K4 fins

I have heard the same story from those on Maui involved with the sale of Simmer boards. I believe they are genuinely sorry for the original poor quality, but that the problem has been resolved.
IMO, you should look at the Exocet x-wave and Goya. Goya will be $400 more than the Exocet, and I believe the 2 board lines to be equivalent in quality and design. I've ridden the Simmer, and own both Exocet and Goya. As for Simmer, if you like the ride more than other boards, I believe you will have a good experience from a quality standpoint. |

I am the proud owner of Quantum 85 and Freewave 105 out here on the right coast. I use both boards year round and have found them to be awesome. The quantum is my go-to board and I believe it may be the second year of production but it has taken an east coast beating and is still going strong. No problems no issues. I have sailed quatro, naish, starboard and oes and Simmer stands up in comparison. The people in and around Simmer are also way cool. Kai has been very helpful and involved while Loopee has always done right by me. Team members - you know who you are - have taken me under their wings and helped in my journey to become a respectable sailor - which I am still working on.....I will continue to buy Simmer boards and sails until I can sail no more. |
