Hot Sails ultra 490 RDM made in Eastern Europe Slovenia, Slovakia, one of those Borat countries, Loft Sails RDM up to 550! also I believe made in Eastern Europe probably the same place.
Kilwell New Zealand no longer making the Hot Sails masts so probably down to just two manufacturers, Borat and Nolimitz, maybe China for someone? |

the shear number of people that are seeking mediocrity concerning this one topic alone is disheartening. if one wishes to have durability at all costs, then one becomes discouraged based on a large number of unknowns? case in point, my example of the numbers that noticed the difference between the RDM and SDM 6.5's in that test several years back. how many simply get disgusted with performance of their equipment, don't seek to find out why, and narrow their tastes of wind to eventually quit? seen that far too often. _________________ www.aerotechsails.com

The thicker wall of the RDM over the SDM also means added weight and cost. So with a greater cost/weight & loss in performance, I’m not surprised that more brands have not jumped on the RDM bandwagon for longer masts. I’m with John on this issue. My larger SDMs are 8-10 years old and going strong. The only masts I’ve broken in the last couple of years are RDMs, 370 & 400 but then that is to be expected as the small sails get used in extreme conditions.

Did he say where the masts were breaking? I see some people who insist on crushing their masts with the boom clamp. |

i've got a SDM 400 that allows me to tension my 4.0 and 4.7 and keep a full leading edge way past what an RDM allows. i use it when the wind is doing that funky 28 to 48 kind shit. had it for over a decade.
i use an RDM 370 or 400 when the waves are large and the wind is more steady with far kess tension on my sails.
having the right stuff for the right conditions is worth the space and budget. again, i've had lots of my SDM's for years. _________________ www.aerotechsails.com

The Ultra IS made in Slovenia. Southern Central Europe , Hungary is close.
The HotRod 97% & Nuevo are made in Neihei, China.
