Great for the Plovers, but if that is going to be handled like the Plover sites in my area (SLO County), that section will be closed off to any pedestrian access. So unless you need that access spot, it is a good thing.

Funny thing though, in my area, now that people can't walk their dogs by those areas (even on a leash), the crows and coyotes are free to go into those areas, w/o fear, and eat the Plover eggs.
Funny how when man tries to control mother nature, sometimes there are negative unintended consequences.

They did the same thing at Crissy. You can't even launch at the old Coast Guard station. The wind died on me once. I washed up there. Some dude came rushing out and warned me to leave at once. Like I had a choice.

Yeah, I hear ya. Earth was put here for humans not cute fuzzy things like plovers and polar bears. We have come out ahead in the evolutionary struggle, so we owe nothing to all those inferior species. We can probably genetically modify them so that they stay cute but don't get in our way anyway.

In the book Hawaii by Michener the Tahitians followed the Golden Plover from Tahiti to Hawaii, figuring that there must be land somewhere north. They then found Hawaii (and brought various plants such as Poi and Breadfruit as there was little to eat there. He says the Plover then would go on to Alaska for the summer. There are other soursces for this. It may be a different set of Northern Hemisphere Plovers. Amazing bird really. Tiny, yet flys 3000 miles in one trip.

In Massachusetts, the Piping Plover has been an issue for decades. It mostly affects 4x4 access since the eggs get crushed by the vehicles.

In our windsurfing spots, the dune areas are marked off for no access. yet the plovers nest in protected areas anyway, meaning in the dune grass. Anyone with a brain knows better than to walk through the dune grass since it's often the only thing that keeps erosion in check and the dunes stable.

Each launch is different, but I'd hope windsurfers stand above the crowd in how we treat the beach and nature. Leave the stupid stuff for others.
