I just read the NOAA prediction that things appear to be setting up for a strong El Nino during the coming year.

Link to article:

A few years back I remember seeing a chart in one of the print magazines of how this may (or may not) alter the typical wind patterns of the continental U.S.A, but I can't find that now.

Does anybody have some educated knowledge regarding this that they would like to share? I'm a great lakes windsurfer located in Rochester, NY hoping for a windier than normal summer season.

Not good in Louisiana. El Nino usually brings increased rains and flooding where I live.

My recollection of the last strong El Nino in the Gorge was honk'n
winds and a long season, with mostly 3.7 days. looking forward to it!

Before you all get boners, the NWS ENSO site (El Nino/La Nina) shows about a 3% more likely chance of El Nino over neutral conditions, and it could change at any time.

HAHAHA! Right on Spennie! Yeah, I didn't want to be an alarmist, or over enthusiastic, I just needed to know what I was praying to the wind gods for.
I'm pretty smart for a dumb guy, but the techno speak on the NOAA and NWS sites made me cross eyed. It reminded me of being 16 and seeing pages of MCS and IMCS data in Windsurfing Mag in the early 90's. I knew the stuff was important, but I just wanted to see my hero's killing it on the water. Mark Angulo throwing crazy jumps, and Fred Haywood losing more hair.

El Nino, please bring a windy summer and a new 5.2. Thanks.

So far from what I have seen, both El Nino and La Nina have been lousy predictors of what quality ski or windsurf season we get.
