|
|
Hello,
Could anyone please provide an insight if Naish Indy 7.6 (2 cam) and older (probably 2005) 460 cm SDM Fiberspar 4800 QT mast (75% carbon ) can be happily married? I've recently got the sail and didn't have a chance to try it on water (heh, heh...there is no water yet but ice on the lake). Meanwhile tried to read about all these hard/flex, bottoms/tops and compatibilities. It became even more difficult to figure out. So maybe someone has first hands experience on this.
Thanks!
Andrei.

Will work but not ideal. Firberspar was the recommended mast for my Severne NCX sails but it never matched well to my Naish Sprints. I could use the Firberspar but the Powerex was a much better fit. Your Indy has cams so you may have more issues (cam rotation) with the Fiberspar mast than I did.

I think the Naish wants a stiffer top than the Fiberspar,
I dont know if this mast is a RDM or SDM.. Fiberspar are not imported anymore to the USA.
IF ITS A SDM, it may be a little better .

It is SDM. Thanks for pointing out. Updated the original post.
Andrei.
P.S. Funny, I cannot find Naish 90/460 SDM anywhere. This is the one recommended for Indy.

Is the mast going to break? |

I have a 1998-99 430cm SDM Fiberspar Reflex Wave Quicktip (75% carbon), and I've found that it works well with some sails (Windwings), but not well with others (also Windwings). What I've discerned is that the fit is based on the shape of the luffcurve. Olders sails tend to have a straighter luffcurve, whereas many newer sails have a more pronounced luff curve. This is independent of the range of hardtop to flextop in constant curve masts. In my experience, Fiberspars have a fairly stiff base, with a middle of the road flex up top.
If you have both the sail and the mast, I would recommend rigging them up to see what you've got. You'll know right away if the Naish sail has too much luffcurve, as the cambers will not easily rotate from side to side. With a real pronounced luffcurve in the sail, it won't rotate around the mast at all. |

someone had this discussion before about the Naish Indy,
I had some interest in this sail in a 8.2, cause it rigged on a 460.
If you could ask Naish what the mast bend curve is, you could match it, or close with masts that may be more generally accessible.
I think the correct curve is more important than if its a RDM or SDM, but add that a less than ideal curve works better in a SDM.
The sails that readily display the curve or you can inquire to receive a answer fill my van. _________________ K4 fins

Ugly_Bird,
I have an 8.2 Indy. Rigs great on a mast with 11% bend. Gulftech & Powerex SDMs that I have an 11% bend. I feel your pain on the Naish 460 SDM. I had to order mine & I don't expect it for a month or so.

Bottom line ob the Fiberspar, it will work some, rigging on the beach is not a real indicator of what it will sail like....... thats the true test. IMO its not marriage material.
Cost effective and all will work from best suited to very well suited in a attractive price range::
1. Windance... Chinook 60% $249
2. Isthumaus GT 40% $ 220
TIE;
2. NAISH 35% $215

If you have the Naish and Fiberspar......try it ..it might work acceptable for ya..or not _________________ K4 fins

I also have SDM Prostock 2005 30-60% carbon (who knows exactly how much) said to be an out of spec B grade of Powerex. Will try too. |
