|
|
I'm looking out for an intermediate board which will help my skills improve. Since I'm on a low budget I'm looking at some second hand boards. I'm hoping to use this board to learn carve jibes and maybe jump a little if possible some forward loops too.
My board choices so far are
1. 2006 Fanatic Falcon 90
2. 2011 JP funride 100
3. 2004 Exocet Carve 93
4. 2003 Exocet SpeedSlider 62
5. 2006 Bic techno Evolution M
6 2003 bic techno 273
7. 2003 Starboard Free Formula 138
8. 2006 Tabou Manta
I know my choices are all over the place and I'm probably narrowing down on bic evolution m or JP funride 100..anyways my requirements are
1. Should sail well in flat to mid choppy water
2. Should be uphaulable incase I can't water start
3. Should be bomb proof and last for many years with rough use and storage
4. Should be good to learn jibes on
5. Should be fun and not too technical to sail
6. Should be fast but need not be scary fast instead fast and a good jiber will be preferred
7. Need not be the first to plane but should get on the plane fairly easily.
I'm a 63kg windsurfer who currently gets about 25% of my waterstarts right.
Thanks. |

Been sailing a funster 180 for the past 3 years now and sometimes have used a friends Go 133 with a 7.5 Neil pride V8 cammed sail.
I'm planning to use a 6-6.2m sail with this board in 15-25knot winds |

Nice choice.
Can you uphaul a 100L ? maybe not the JP, your weight ?
the smaller size board will waterstart easier
Cammed sails are not on my bucket list.. been there done that.
Your strength requirements.... are going to be hard to reach along with your other wants and need.
If I were to pick ONE of theses its the Bic EVO Techno M.. like 112L
closely followed by the other Bic 273 125L, probably more like co pick and condition VS $$ _________________ K4 fins

No board (or sail) is bombproof, but if you're abusive to your equipment the Bic boards are probably a good bet. Also they meet your other requirements. I'd go for the Techno 273 out of those choices. Also don't worry about "fast" boards...at this point in your windsurfing learning curve any of those boards can be sailed way faster than you know how to sail them. You'll close that gap (and others) over time! _________________ Michael

This is exactly what I had shortlisted...the bics seem to be good choices for the price and should help me progress further. |

Not knowing the wind speed, planned sail size or location of your sailing makes it hard to offer advice. Also, do you plan on keeping your 180?
A couple of points at your weight. A 180 liter board is huge & the Techno 273 (around 130 liters I believe?) will simply replace your 180 liter board In every conceivable way. You will gain performance with the 273 vs the 180 but basically the two boards would be used in the same conditions. If you are keeping the 180 I would scratch the 273 off my list. 110-90 liters is the range to look at if you keep the 180. Water conditions and your own ability will determine how small of a board you can upahul. 110 should be easy, 90 will be a challenge at first.

I have had both boards. My two cents is go for the BIC. The JP is to small and will limit your time on the water. The Bic boards are very durable and hold up well to abuse that newbies are sure to dish out. The Bic should be cheaper. |
