We recently returned from an awesome season in Western Australia, with super consistent conditions! My girlfriend and I shared a quiver of the 2014 S1’s in 3.6, 4.0, 4.4, 4.8, and had plenty of time testing them! We owned the 2013 S1’s before this.

What these sails do for me….. When I go windsurfing I am most of the time only thinking about wave sailing and need equipment that will help me improve in this area. These sails are incredibly efficient – like no other sail I have tried before (and I’ve tried many) and super light. I can sail on smaller sails because of this which makes wave riding a lot easier and therefore more fun! (This is also a great point for winter sailing – you won’t get tired/cramp up so quick). On the wave the sail is incredibly easy to control, power when you need it and depowers instantly. As you come through the bottom turn and start to open up the sail it doesn’t hesitate and instantly re-loads giving you acceleration and power which leads to effortless aerials and vertical lip attacks, seriously! I’m confident to say that these sails have improved my sailing and even helped me to pull off tricks like takas and wave 360’s! I think part of that improvement is I am enjoying using the new gear so much.

The main difference you notice with the new sails is the increased range and slightly softer feel. The 2013 sails are great in that they have the important S1 characteristics of being super light weight (in feel too), exciting, incredibly efficient, and have this ‘loaded spring’ effect which when waveriding gives you this amazing boost into the top turn. But I found with the 2013’s the feel was a little too ‘exciting’, with the sail being so efficient and reacting so fast to every change.

Well, the great thing is that the 2014 S1’s still have the same amazing positive points as the 2013’s, but now with a much bigger wind range and increased stability, meaning you don’t need to change down so quickly and this 4 batten sail will still feel great in gusty and overpowered conditions.

Sounds like an awesome trip! It's boggles my mind that there is a place in the world where 4.8 can be the BIGGEST sail in one's quiver. Smile My sub-5.0 sails are so rarely used that I don't get much feel for the finer points of their performance.

we had a 3.2 with us too but as it's a 2013 I didn't list it in the quiver!

It sounds to me like you just described the Ezzy Elite 4 batten wave sail, practically word for word, sail that I'm very impressed with for all the same reasons.
