Anesthesia? For a colonoscopy? No way I'm throwing away a day of clearheadedness for something that benign. Just Do It, get up, drive away (can't drive same day if ya use drugs), and play. It's a rumor, started by starving anesthesiologists, that drugs are necessary for colonoscopies (or stomach scopes/EGDs). |

Ask the surgeon if he can put in a zipper for when they have to change out the worn out parts later. |

For colonoscopies, doctors really don't use an anesthesia that knocks you out. Instead, they use an injected sedative that calms you down and reduces discomfort during the procedure. You're totally awake while the procedure is being performed. However, some folks are more affected by the sedative, and they can tend to get sleepy and less alert for a number of hours. The sedative really doesn't have that effect on me though, and I could easily go windsurfing within a hour or two no problem.
I wouldn't recommend getting a colonoscopy without the sedative. It's doable, but it would be a very uncomfortable mistake that you would very likely regret during the procedure. Not good. |
