You welded aluminum, drilled out the reinforcement, then ground off the "excess", right? Do we have to guess in minutes, or right down to the second?

I always thought the exposed welds on aluminum, heli arc, supplied 60% of the strength.
"Plastic dowell" ?? I would have gone to a hardward store and bought some galvanised steel tubing myself, but then, I wouldn't need any welding, as silver tape would fix the boom strong enough. |

Always interesting to see what different folks interpretation of "Radical" is. Andre likes to sail into oblivion in dying winds to see if he can make it from Coyote Point to Alameda. You like to light a broken boom on fire and then take it out for one more run. Totally Rad!, or totally broke?
There is a link right at the top of this page for used booms. Or, I like the suggestion about getting a new boom arm from Chinook. But, then again, I'm just not as Rad as some of guys on these message boards. For a totally Rad test, I suggest Crissy on a strong ebb... |

Is that the same Andy who used to sail a NeilPryde RX slalom 5.8 with the cambers and it's battens removed?
Very good sailor, questionalble financial decisions concerning windsurfing gear!
Hi Andy, Domond here. Hope you don't have a long swim back. |

FYI, it lasted about 1 sec. At the dog park, I was showing Derek and Kevin how strong it was ...broke about 2 inches away from where I "fixed" it. I think it's good for me to waste my time and do something extra stupid every once in a while, just to remind myself what I'm capable of.
To all those who've worried about me, I have other, carbon, booms. I ordered a new one. It's not about the money...it's about having a welder in the basement and not having a legitimate use for it. |
