http://www.nytimes.com/2014/08/23/opinion/isis-atrocities-started-with-saudi-support-for-salafi-hate.html?_r=0

Let’s be clear: Al Qaeda, the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, Boko Haram, the Shabab and others are all violent Sunni Salafi groupings. For five decades, Saudi Arabia has been the official sponsor of Sunni Salafism across the globe.

Most Sunni Muslims around the world, approximately 90 percent of the Muslim population, are not Salafis. Salafism is seen as too rigid, too literalist, too detached from mainstream Islam. While Shiite and other denominations account for 10 percent of the total, Salafi adherents and other fundamentalists represent 3 percent of the world’s Muslims.

Unlike a majority of Sunnis, Salafis are evangelicals who wish to convert Muslims and others to their “purer” form of Islam — unpolluted, as they see it, by modernity. In this effort, they have been lavishly supported by the Saudi government, which has appointed emissaries to its embassies in Muslim countries who proselytize for Salafism. The kingdom also grants compliant imams V.I.P. access for the annual hajj, and bankrolls ultraconservative Islamic organizations like the Muslim World League and World Assembly of Muslim Youth.

After 9/11, under American pressure, much of this global financial support dried up, but the bastion of Salafism remains strong in the kingdom, enforcing the hard-line application of outdated Shariah punishments long abandoned by a majority of Muslims. Just since Aug. 4, 19 people have been beheaded in Saudi Arabia, nearly half for nonviolent crimes.

We are rightly outraged at the beheading of James Foley by Islamist militants, and by ISIS’ other atrocities, but we overlook the public executions by beheading permitted by Saudi Arabia. By licensing such barbarity, the kingdom normalizes and indirectly encourages such punishments elsewhere. When the country that does so is the birthplace of Islam, that message resonates.

The Muslim religion grew up in a time of barbarism. It excluded all other faiths, most of which worshiped animal gods at the time.
Old fashioned Muslims never came into a modern world of many faiths living in harmony.
Christianity equalled Catholicism for over a thousand years until Luther, and maintained the same point of view. They killed or suppressed all other faiths, esp Muslims.
A segment of the Christian Right still wishes to make America a evangelical Christian nation. I have been told by evangelicals that I am going to hell because of my attendance at a DIFFERENT evangelical church.

Different religions all based on Jewish faith with dark elements of the Dark Ages still alive.

And you included the pic of Bush because.......................
So you could use his name in your thread title?
If I post a pic of BHO bowing to the same guy would the thread title be different?
How about no pic and name the thread ISIS, Saudi Arabia, and bacon.

NW--what you seem to have missed about the thread--and the world--is that Bush's buddies (and mrgybe's?) in the royal family in Saudi Arabia have been funding terrorism for many years. Right after 9/11 Bush helped some of the Saudi oil folks return to Saudi Arabia. There is strong suspicion that there was at least an indirect connection between Saudi's and the attacks: http://www.ibtimes.com/911-link-saudi-arabia-topic-28-redacted-pages-government-report-congressmen-push-release-1501202

More on this, including this quote:

Quote:
Into the mix, on Wednesday the 12th, came troubling news. In a phone call that night, a C.I.A. official told Ambassador Bandar that 15 of the hijackers had been Saudis. As Bandar recalled it, he felt the world collapsing around him. “That was a disaster,” Crown Prince Abdullah’s foreign-affairs adviser Adel al-Jubeir has said, “because bin Laden, at that moment, had made in the minds of Americans Saudi Arabia into an enemy.”

Royal and rich Saudis scrambled to get out of the United States and return home. Seventy-five royals and their entourage, ensconced at Caesars Palace hotel and casino in Las Vegas, decamped within hours of the attacks to the Four Seasons. They felt “extremely concerned for their personal safety,” they explained to the local F.B.I. field office, and bodyguards apparently deemed the Four Seasons more secure.

In Washington, Saudis who wished to leave included members of the bin Laden family. One of Osama’s brothers, never named publicly, had hastily called the Saudi Embassy wanting to know where he could best go to be safe. He was installed in a room at the Watergate Hotel and told to stay there until advised that transportation was available. Across the country, more than 20 bin Laden family members and staff were getting ready to leave.

from Vanity Fair.

Now I'm not sure I believe much of the more paranoid aspects of this tale. But what I do believe is that Bush and other members of the oil-ogolopoly in this country have been bamboozled, at least a little, by their buddies in the oil business in countries like Saudi Arabia. It is why I take exceptions to any claims that begin "I've forgotten more about the oil business and the Middle East than you'll ever know." Especially when said in a condescending manner essentially ending in, "that's for me to know and you to find out."

But for those of you who self-brainwash on the Koch feeds, there's no reason to post a picture of Bush with the Saudis. Visit the real world now and then.

Ok, ok, ok, I'll admit it, the religious war(s) involving the Muslims that have been going on for 100's of years, if not thousands, are all Bush's fault.
How silly of me to forget that.
Even though you're history only started right after 911, anything before that is moot.
Please.
And disregard the pic I posted of the BHO's bow, it was photoshopped.
Feel better? Rolling Eyes

You seem to have missed the point. Again. But you managed to make up some fake beliefs and dialogue that you attribute to me. Stunning debate style. Maybe you're still confusing Iran with Iraq? Sunni with Shiite?

Perhaps we should blame it on the Brits for not listening to Lawrence of Arabia? Does that put Bush in the clear for having de-stabilized the Middle East?

And tell me again, why we should pay attention to the oilgolopolists?

Awww, man. Now I'm confused...

You had me 98% convinced it was all Obama's fault.
