I got catapulted brutally once several years back. Couldn't sleep well for several days, had problems concentrating at work. Went to the doctor and was diagnosed with a concussion even though I didn't hit anything other than the water. Your head is like an egg and the yolk inside can still smack the inside of the shell pretty hard. Not that the doctors can do much about it, unless it is life threatening and they decide to drill some holes in your skull. But you may want to take it easy for a while. |

Only if you are absolutely certain that you can paddle in. If you are in offshore wind or currents, or have problems paddling for some other reason, the rig will make it a lot easier for rescuers to spot you. Spotting a windsurfer without a rig from the air can be impossible. The rig will also slow your drifting in offshore conditions. |
