Storing all that gear !

About to move and need to downsize. Got me reflecting on what a pain it has been to lug this stuff around everywhere. It also makes me humorously remember all the places that it has been stored over the years: from behind the couch in the living room of the 2-bedroom condo I grew up in, to storage units, outside decks, balconies, basements, laundry rooms, the dining room of my apartment, and rented garages. A friend of mine even had his on the wall in his living room Smile

Garages and storage units have been the best and most convenient as far as access. And my gear collection certainly grew when I got one. But alas, we don't all own homes with garages and storage units can be expensive. (Is 12 months at $100/m worth it? What would it cost to just rent gear instead?)

Ah, but the joy of having your own gear and being able to sail whenever you want!

Also, when there have been discussions about why the sport hasn't grown, the death of windsurfing magazine, etc., storage of the gear is absolutely one of the factors. You can't just throw it in your closet like a pair of skis or a kite. It is one of the reasons why this sport is mainly the domain of professional males, age 30 and up, with disposable incomes.

Just some random thoughts.

Time for me to pare way down.

Yeah, it takes about that long to be able to collect all the equipment. Maybe you can figure out a way to keep it all efficiently with the ideas in this racks post: http://www.iwindsurf.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=29009
